Run, Gilthares, Run!
Gilthares Firebough has been locked in Northwatch Hold for quite a while. There’s a really good reason for this: No one in Ratchet wants him back! Like a fool, I accepted his quest (Free From the Hold) and suffered the displeasure of his company.
This guy walks as slow as he possibly can. As far as I can tell, this is not the result of any injury. He’s like John Travolta in Staying Alive — “I’m gonna strut.” (He even dresses like Tony Manero!)
As if crawling along with this guy isn’t bad enough, he goes out of his way to fight every single mob between Northwatch Hold and Ratchet. These mobs are so low-level, I wasn’t even getting XP.
So, after strutting along and taking on every pirate on The Merchant Coast, he pops up with this gem:
I almost put an arrow in the base of his skull.

There are very few escort quests really worth doing: most are either too hard for the level or the NPCs are simply too dumb! I think I may only have done 3 or 4 that were good escort quests where either the NPC followed me or (s)he would have a decent pace and even be useful on the spawned mobs. The remaining 20+ I’ve done were just plain drag!

@Someone - There’s no doubt about that. I believe I’ve run most of the escort quests in the last (almost) 3 years, and this fellow is near the top of the crappy heap.
