These are the little companions that run around behind you and offer absolutely no value to you other than their looks. Any pet collector knows that the definitive guide on minipets is Brianni's WarcraftPets.com.

Brianni (AKA Brian Brolin) has added an excellent pet collection tracker to the site. The tracker allows you to see what pets you have and which you still need. Additionally, the collection tracker can be updated by plugins, saving you the tedium of updating the site each time you get a new pet, or more importantly, the first time you start using the site.

If you're curious, check out my collection.

I wasn't happy that my Rotting Agam'ar boar had become useless with the addition of Thunderstomp to the gorilla family. Fortunately, the recent change that makes Thunderstomp a part of the Tenacity tree means that my old boar can come out and play again. I'm currently working on leveling him up to 80 while working on the Argent Tournament quests.

My boar, Gullinbursti, got me all the way through level 70. It was a shame to abandon him once gorillas became so powerful. I'm glad I can use him now.

This got me thinking about my own interest in flying pets. I decided to go ahead and level up a Blood Elf Hynjoku and get a sexy Bat pet!

Since my target bat was the rare spawn Ressan, I needed to be level 11 before attempting the tame. This didn't take too long really. The starting zones for the new races seem better about advancing your character than the old zones.

Once I reached level 11, taming Ressan was merely a matter of running through Tirisfal Glades until I reached his spawn point in the southwest corner of the zone.

Since Blood Elf Hynjoku is only level 11, I really don't have anything useful to report. It is worth noting that if you are considering a flying pet that bats are not the best choice. Although they look really good, they suffer from a lack of focus dump ability like Claw. If you are interested in a high DPS flying pet, I'd recommend an owl.

Happy flapping!

For the discriminating Beast Master, it's not enough to tame just any pet. Finding a pet that is unique among it's peers, is what the Hunter class is all about. You'd be surprised at the number of comments I get as I roll through town with Gullinbursti, my armored black boar.

Until now, when rolling a new hunter I had to comb through each pet family to find the unique pet that I'd be going for. With Mania's new compilation page, this is a snap.

Thanks, Mania!

Everything has gone according to the master plan. As soon as I reached level 28, I was able to get help inside Razorfen Kraul in order to tame a Rotting Agam'ar.

The Rotting Agam'ar is a level 28 Elite mob, so taming it wasn't easy. Luckily, I had help from a higher level hunter who laid some bandaids on me.

This was the pet I was hoping for all along, and is why I chose a black boar for my initial pet. Now, I have essentially the same pet (although currently not as loyal, of course), but with an upgraded battle armor look. We're on our way to Tarren Mill to cause some damage in Hillsbrad. Wish us luck!

Currently, (Patch 2.1.3) raptors have the highest pet DPS in the game (along with cats and ravagers), but lack the Dash ability. Without Dash, most hunters aren't willing to use a raptor despite their obvious sex appeal.

While doing a little research, I came across the Tendon Slice ability for raptors. This ability is a damage over time with slow effect. Perhaps this is old news (or a complete fabrication), but with the addition of this ability and Dash, the only thing missing from the Raptor family is a unique skin for low-level hunters.

What do think? Will Dash change your mind about the Raptor family? Leave a comment and let everyone know.

It has been my intention to use Humar the Pridelord as my DPS pet. As you may (or may not) know, Humar is a unique black male lion. As if his uniqueness was not enough, he is also an extremely rare spawn. The general consensus is that his spawn time is between 8 and 12 hours.

8 and 12 hours!

That means you only have 2-3 chances per day to catch him, and you're competing with every hunter on your server. Needless to say, taming this beauty is a feat.

I decided that I would need a Plan B, just in case I wasn't able to show the patience necessary to nab Humar. My Plan B is Echeyakee, a white male lion. He shares his skin with only one other mob: Sian-Rotam of Winterspring. Both of these white lions are summoned via Horde quests, so catching one isn't as exciting for a Horde Hunter as it would be for the Alliance. It's still a beautiful catch.

I welcome Echeyakee into my stable, but please don't mention to him that it may only be temporary... He looks pretty hungry!
