Shopping is for girls (photo by ortonesque)In real life, I’m notoriously cheap. Like super-mega-ultra cheap. To a certain extent that translates directly into how I play the game. For example, I never spend a dime on equipment upgrades while leveling. This means I’m sometimes behind in terms of damage or stats, but I just can’t bring myself to drop a few gold on an item that I’ll replace in a level or two. Consequently, I’m usually pretty under-geared when fighting in BGs.

Once Hynjoku hit level 70, I decided it was time to spend a little money on some decent gear. If you’ve followed this site for any length of time, you’re aware that I’m trying to experience all the game content I can on this toon. Thus, I’m level 70 but still finishing up quests in Nagrand. Here’s what I bought at the auction house recently.

  • [Breastplate of Rapid Striking] – I got this item (and most others on this list) for less than 50G. The +AGI, +AP, and +hit of this item are really nice compared to the drops and quest items I’ve gotten so far.
  • [Crystalhide Handwraps] – This was my big ticket item, costing right around 300G. After surveying all the glove items I could get reasonably, I decided this would last me long enough to make the 300G loss more than reasonable. I added two +6 AGI gems ([Delicate Blood Garnet]) for less than 4G each and a +26 AP enchant.
  • [Crystalforged War Axe] – Again another common drop that ended up costing me less than 50G. The +80 AP translates to an additional 5 DPS, which is nice for maintaining that sustained ranged DPS that defines the Hunter class.
  • [Valanos' Longbow] – Once again, a fairly common drop. This one cost me less than 50G, as well. I picked this up mainly because it was the highest DPS ranged weapon available to me and was significantly better than my [Ethereal Warp-Bow].

And there you have it. The whole lot cost me less than 450G, and 300G of that was tied up in one epic item. At the end of the day, I’ve still got 2500G saved up, so I don’t feel I’ve been set back too much.
